Elastomeric roof coating from TRUCO could be one of the best investments you make into your building's roof. It's affordable, relatively easy to install, and can add years to your roof's lifespan. In some cases, it could even improve your energy-efficiency or lower your HVAC costs! Elastomeric roof coating has that name because the coating is elastic. SEBS polymer resin formula has very rubbery properties giving it resiliency against many forms of damage. It allows the coating to stretch and return to its original shape - such as during hot days where expansion occurs – and the cold days where contraction occurs. The freeze/thaw cycles can really take a toll on a roof, so protecting it with TRUCO's Elastomeric Eterna-Seal coating can revitalize the roof for many more years of service. Elastomeric coatings are reasonably easy to install as well, although we must stress that it's always best to leave it to the professionals. Many brands of roof coating require certified installation specialists to provide full warranty benefits. None the less, this ease of installation is just part of why such coatings are so affordable.
Unsurprisingly, roof coatings must be installed on a roof that's as clean as possible. Whenever we can, we'll wait until a still day without much wind specifically to reduce the chance of debris. Then we use standard sweepers to clean off the top, as well as pressure washers to take care of any caked-in dirt.
Roof coatings work best when the underlying roof surface is free of any major cracks or other issues. We'll survey the roof, and apply our mastic coatings to any problem areas. As with any painting/coating project, the prep work is the most important. Making sure that all penetrations, seams and fasteners are sufficiently coated for water-tightness before applying the base coat and then the final or “top” coat.
Elastomeric coatings are simple to apply! In many cases, it can be applied like paint with a large roller brush: First the edges, then working either downwards or inwards, depending on the shape of the roof. For larger roofs, we'll usually spray the coating on instead of rolling or brushing because of time constraints that are associated with rolling a very large roof. Elastomeric roof coating can be applied to most roof types, including metal, EPDM, PCV, concrete, aluminum, modified and cement. You get a stronger roof that's more resistant to damage, and the added reflectivity that will most certainly lower your heating/cooling bills. Is it time for roof repairs?
