Can I use Truco’s Eterna-Seal coating on my asphalt shingled roof?
We do not recommend that our coating be applied to an asphalt shingled roof, because shingles sometimes move, shift and curl a bit. If this happens the coating could get puntured and this in turn would allow water to enter.
How do I prepare a metal roof before applying the coating?
All protrusions (air conditioners, vents, ect.) on the roof should be checked and if not working, replaced. All fasteners should be checked. Stripped fasteners or badly rusted fasteners should be replaced with the next largest size or a lap screws. All seams that have a gap more than 1/8″ wide should be secured with lap screws. All rusty areas should be treated with RRC 600 (Rust Remover & Conditioner). A garden sprayer works very well for application. RRC is clear and biodegradable. All roofs should be power washed. Water is fine in most cases. A detergent should be used if roof is greasy or oily.
What should I use to prepare Seams and Fasteners?
1 gallon of #7141 Super Seam Sealer or #7165 Seam Sealer Brush Grade will cover all seams and fasteners on Approx. 200 sq. ft. or 2 roofing squares. #7141 & #7165 Seam Sealer can be brushed or sprayed. #7174 Flashing Cement should be used in conjunction with RH-53 polyester membrane wherever a gap is more than 1/8″ wide and can’t be tightened down with lap screws; Wherever protrusions tie into a roof; and whenever a roof ties into another building.
